Sean & Susan

Tonight two of our juniors headed into the sunset in style. I hope to get the photos up here soon. They went to Sean's Debs and needles to say, they scrub up well. Trisuits do not do these pair justice.
Also Johnnathan texted me the results of the triathlon that was held in the Curragh last week. Well done to our participants. Wesley's team came in 3rd in the relay with a time of 1hr 20mins. Johnathan was placed 36th with a time of 1hr 31min 18sec with Siobhan, not too far behind him in 41st place with a time of 1hr 33min 1 sec and coming in right behind her, Denise was placed 42nd with a time of 1hr 33min 9secs.

Test Tri Series Winners are....

Firstly I'ld like to congratulate all the juniors who took part in the Test Tri and Test Duathlon series for 2009. There are some really good times and as relative beginners to the sport, there are certainly some seniors (myself included) worried about how good you are going to get. The Test Tri Series winner in the Female category goes to Siobhan O'Toole whose swim has gone from strength to strength. Well done Siobhan. We look forward to you joining our training sessions over the winter. Michael Dalton's composure throughout the season had us all marvelling and wondering at his amazing talent. As he knocked out a new PB at each Test tri we are really looking forward to finding out what he can do with a season of training and experiece under his belt. Well done to everyone. Roll on some fun training sessions for November.

Congratulations

Well done to all of you who participated in the Heritage Challenge last Saturday. I was looking at the results and the photos and it looked like everyone had a great race. Also congratulations on selecting great parents that helped out with the marshalling. Only for them, you wouldn't have had a race to compete in!! See you next Saturday at the final test tri of 2009.

Help needed for the Heritage

Hi Guys, first of all best of luck to those of you who are taking part in the Heritage Challenge this Saturday. I'm sorry I won't be there to see you but I know you'll do really well. At the moment, the club desperately needs more marshals so if you are bringing along a friend or if your parents are willing to help out, will you please contact me on 0871341074 and I'll pass the details onto the race organizers. Remember these races are not possible without the help of volunteers. So a big thank you in advance to those of you who can spare 2 hours between 7am and 12pm.

Test Tri 5 & Heritage

Hi all, just to let you know that entries for Test Tri 5 is now open (until tomorrow, Thursday at 7pm) and entry for the Heritage closes on Monday. Links to both can be found on the news page.

If anyone's parents are coming along and hanging around while you take part, could you ask them if they could help out? We need 3-4 more helpers to pull the test tri off ... especially since there's going to be a lot of interest in this one.

Aquathon on 8th August

Hi everyone, there is an aquathon on on the 8th of august in Galway. If anyone is interested, please let me know and I will email you the application form. The only problem is, it that it collides with Test Tri 5. For those of you not taking part in Trilogy's test tri, I strongly recommend that you attend this junior aquathon. You can email me through sinead@trilogy.ie or ring me on 087 1341074

Check out your video

Hi everyone, I've just logged onto triathlone.com and when you select the results (provisional), select agegroup full information system. When you type in who you are looking for, all the information about that person comes up in detail. It is very good but the cherry on top is your actual finishers video. For anyone out there who wants to see themselves crossing the line, you will find it either very funny or very terrible!!

bike position / murt ?

hi all,
i just read the post in the "news" section that murt is doing tune ups for the bikes.
my problem is that whenever i go out for long cycle, say around 50 mins+ i start getting lower back pains and i think this may be due to the distance between saddle and bars and the heights of saddle and bars.
i have gone poking around with it myself but i have not got any relief from the pains so far so im wondering if i may be on the wrong track.
any ideas on what i could try or is a trip to murt the way to go to remedy this problem?

thanks!
ross

Keep the good times coming!

Sinead has done up some excellent reports for your recent trips to Mullingar and to Dublin.

You are doing the rest of the club proud, while you all travelled to Dublin on Sunday, there are four senior members of the club I could name-and-shame that were turning over the sheets as you turned-off the M50.

Enjoy the reports below, and keep an eye out for photos (it could be after TriAthy when they are posted). Hope to see some of you at the Test events this Thursday and Saturday.

Cycle tomorrow.

Hi guys, I know a lot of you are racing on Sunday at the aquathon, but we will still go ahead with an easy spin tomorrow. Don't forget your helmets and a drink for the bike. Also, if any one needs a lift for the race on Sunday, please let me know tomorrow so I can arrange something for ye.

Help Needed for TriAthy

Hi guys, I hope the race yesterday went well for you all.

Just a quick reminder that I am still on the look out for helpers aged 16 and over for TriAthy. Brothers, Sisters, parents all welcome and their help really appreciated. Everyone gets a goodie bag but best of all the club makes money from your help (Sinead can explain more).

So if you are around on May 30, and if you can bring one or two others, then please click on this link to register now. Link to volunteer.

Trilogy Juniors Dominate in Limerick

I just want to send a HUGH congratulations to Laura Ridgeway, Bill Fitzpatrick, Ross Byrne and Sean McCormack for their outstanding performance yesterday at the Joey Hannon Triathlon. It was not an easy race so the faint hearted stayed at home. On the bike, the wind was EVERYWHERE while the run had many twists and turns. Being Pirhanas, not one of you seemed daunted by swim.
For all your efforts, you were rightly rewarded. Laura took home the grand prize or should I say €75 for first female junior, Bill has an unopened envelope so we are not sure what his prize money is, (I'm guessing €50) and Ross was happy out to open his €25 envelope. Sean McCormack just missing out but loving the race and enjoying the day was more than happy to be able to wear the T-Shirt with pride.
Well done all of you. The training is 'paying' off!!

Helpers wanted for TriAthy

Hi guys, I'm asking you all to work at TriAthy this year. It is on in Athy (obviously) on the 30th May. It is the largest triathlon on the race calender and it will be a great atmosphere. This is the race that counts for ALL trilogy members. As you are aware, there is no joining membership fee for our club and this is one of the reasons. We have also got a lot of equipment (new timing chips) for the club from this race and possible new S.A.Q equipment for the junior squad training sessions, so please try and make yourselves available. Each member of Trilogy that helps out = money for the club.

2nd on the list

Hi Ross, just to let you know that you are actually second on the list for Joey Hannon. Is it possilbe that you were looking at the standard race and not the sprint?

TriAthlone

Cheers Sinead,
Thats a much better rate, as for J. Hannon at the weekend, I was looking for a section of the site to make sure i was entered. Couldn't find it, I just wanted to make doubly sure that i'm entered.

P.S. You were fast answering my last question, 3 days faster! check the date =P

Midland Aquathlon

Hi everyone, there is an aquathon on in Mullingar in Bloomfield house on the 10th May. It is open for under 8's to 15yr olds. If anyone is interested let me know and I'll get you an application form.

Fingal Aquathon - 17th May

Hi everyone, not only is this an excellent race, it is also free to enter. Please let me know if you are going to participate. It is held in the national aquathic centre. It would be great for you all to get back into a 50m pool. Check out the details on www.fingaljuniorsprint.3dtri.com
Don't forget that this will be brilliant training for the national junior championships being held in June in Port Laoise.

Well done Ross and Laura

The conditions were not as warm as we had hoped for a place called the Heath, but Byrne and Ridgeway didn't let that affect them. With the cup up for grabs in the Duathlon series this year, these juniors wasted no time by getting into the first race and stamping their mark ensuring that everyone who follows will be playing catch up. Bryne had a remarkable first run in a time of 6:54 beating yours truly in the process. He finished the way he started by destroying his previous PB by 7mins 50sec making sure he gained maximum points in the process. His overall race time is as follows:
Run 1 = 6:54, T1 = 1:28, Bike = 22:38 (lap 1 - 10:48, lap 2 - 10:35), T2 = 1:15, Run 2 = 7:50. Total time = 38:50.
Ridgeway, determined to hold onto her cup for 2 years in a row was her usual composed self. Never looking as if she was out of her comfort zone, Laura posted an excellent time for the start of the year.
Run 1 = 8:09, T1 = 1:08, Bike = 25:38 (lap 1 - 12:37, lap 2 - 12:03), T2 = 58sec, Run 2 = 8:40. Total time = 43:35.
With her transitions well and truly licked, this junior certainly has some of the seniors looking over their shoulder.
Well done to you both.

Hi guys, I just want to say well done again for doing so well in Limerick. PBs were smashed right, left and centre. No one could have asked for more. I know for a fact, that there are already a few seniors in the club (myself included) worried about the competition you will bring to Triathlon this year. Anyway, here are your results:

Re:Target Times

Hi Ross,
it is a very good question. However, you are not going to like the answer. Triathlon is an INDIVIDUAL sport in which everyone is competing against themselves. Therefore, it is up to you to set your own 20km time on the bike and it will always be up to you to try and better it. It is not what you wanted to hear but just remember you don't want to finish a race and think "I could have gone faster". You want to cross that line knowing that you gave it 100%. Remember this: PAIN IS JUST WEAKNESS LEAVING THE BODY!!!

Training 21st February @ 12:00hrs

9 swimmers = 11 medals - only the Juniors could manage this one!

Congratulations to everyone who participated in this weekends gala in Newross. This division 2 Winter qualifiers meet was a grueling competition that lasted over 2 days and saw PBs smashed. Well done to all involved, especially the parents and coaches who give their time and expertise into what can now only be confirmed as our 'up and coming' athletes.
Sorcha Mathews, who only last Friday moved up an age group made her presence felt as she made all 3 finals. This 11 year old set PBs in the 100m final of the Butterfly in an outstanding time of 1min 55secs. She also produced the goods when it came to the 200 freestyle in a time of 3min 20secs and 200m breast stroke in 4min 27secs.
William Goodwin had no problem displaying his potential when he also lowered his PBs in both the 400m freestlye to 7mins 14secs and his 100m breast stroke to 1min 48secs. When asked what she thought of this promising young 13 year old, his coach Eimear Mathews said "I'm immensely proud of him, as I am of all the swimmers that have come here today. They are consistent and are constantly improving".
Not to be out done, the youngest member representing Piranha, Diarmaid Faherty who is 8 years old set his PB in the 50m freestyle in an astonishing time of 59secs. Watch this space.
Diarmaid's 11year old sister, Claire made the podium in her 400m freestlye with a time of 6min 51 In the 200m breaststroke Claire stepped up a spot to take the silver with a time of 3min 54sec.
This was a mirrored display of 12 year old Kayleigh Mather who had no problem performing under pressure as she too, took home a sliver in 400m freestyle in a time of 6min 40 and a bronze in the 200m freestyle in 3min 11secs.
13year old Aoife Byrne had great pleasure during her race as her relaxed and perfected 200m backstroke placed her number 1 with an excellent time of 2min 51sec.
Her brother, Ross Byrne placed 3rd in the 200m freestyle in a time of 2:35:93. While he also posted the 2nd fastest time of the day in the IM in a time of 3:01 and the 100m Fly in 1:31, it was disappointing that he was unable to take part in the finals.
15 year old Tagdh Mathews gained a deserving place in the finals of the 100m breast stroke when he posted a time of 1:33. He went on to take the silver in the finals with a 1:35 time. He proved to be consistent in the 100m freestyle when he posted 1:13 in the heats and earned himself a bronze in the finals with the same result. Still not happy with 2 medals, he decided to prove himself again in the 400m freestyle with a time of 6min 22sec. Did I mention that this young man is only 15? Scary isn't it?
His elder brother Tom, who has been carrying an injury, shrugged this off as if he was Michael Phelps himself and hauled home 2 medals. In his heats of the 100m freestyle Tom posted a time of 1:01. He added 2 seconds to this time to take the silver in the finals. He was to join Aoife Byrne in taking home another gold for the club when he finished 1st place in the 100m breaststroke in 1:17.
Congratulations everyone who took part. Your hours of training in the pool are without a doubt paying off. Remember: ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS.
